Join a dynamic team for a full slate of Gospel centered service for vulnerable immigrant families, teens and elementary students. The Root Cellar’s robust and creative approach to ministry includes a relational focus with clear demonstrations and declarations of the Gospel of Jesus through summer day camps, teen mentoring, English Language Learning and food security programming.
Located in Maine’s largest city, the Root Cellar has been serving the Munjoy Hill neighborhood for over 40 years. As families and needs have changed over the years, we continue to welcome neighbors from any background, need, language, or country and meet them with the love of Christ. For many, we are the bridge between their home culture and American culture, loneliness and community, need and generosity.
In Lewiston, Maine’s second largest city, the Root Cellar sits at the heart of the Tree Streets neighborhood. The Tree Streets are home to many nations and people, many of which find their community at the Root Cellar. We serve many neighbors from Muslim backgrounds, including the highest per capita population of Somali refugees in the US, and work to engage them with the love of Christ by building relationships with them. This collection of people from many nations, needs, and backgrounds find a family at the Root Cellar.
We have 2 locations, about 35 Miles apart in 2 very different communities.
Students will be exposed to both Portland and Lewiston but will spend the majority of their time in only one location. We will appoint two pairs of students, with each pair focused on one location. Everyone will routinely gather together, but each location offers a unique approach, while serving the same strategy and demographics.
