How It Works: Grant Supported Opportunities

2027 Grant Amounts:
Twenty grants of $500 each will be awarded to students serving 4 weeks or more. Priority will be given to students serving in regions or type of work not available through Send Me Now.

Grants for students serving in an IMB Residency are $1500.

Must be an active BCM student in the fall or spring semester preceding term of service.
Appointment to a position:
Mission opportunities are self-selected from the list of ministry opportunities found on the Send Me Now website. (examples: IMB, GenSend, etc.). Any opportunity offered by these partners is acceptable for Send Me Now grant support.

Other mission opportunities may be considered for grant support and will require advance approval from the Send Me Now consultant. To ask if a particular ministry opportunity not listed on the SMN website is eligible for grant support, e-mail sendmenow@gabaptist.org.

Application is made directly to the mission partner of choice. Application procedures and deadlines required by that agency/partner must be met, including all required expenditures. The selected agency/partner will be responsible for all logistics and requirements.

Once an approved assignment has been secured, application can be made to Send Me Now for a grant.

An interview with the local BCM campus minister is required. After that interview, the BCM campus minister must complete a recommendation form for the grant applicant and submit to Send Me Now.

Once a confirmed missions assignment, grant application, and recommendation are all complete, a grant can be made.

Grant recipients are required to attend EQUIP, April 10, 2027. (Residency students serving in the spring semester are not required to attend EQUIP.)
How is grant money actually given/received?
After the April 1 deadline and completion of all requirements (including appointment confirmation from sending agency), Send Me Now will then issue a $500 check to the student, which can then be used for trip costs.

IMB residency grants will be paid directly to the IMB under student’s account.
Important things to keep in mind:

Students have the opportunity to apply directly to the mission partner and location of their choice. Approval for service and appointment rests solely on the mission agency, church, or other ministry to which the student applies.

The amount of SMN grants cannot exceed the guidelines stated above, regardless of the cost of the selected opportunity. Consider location, requirements, supervision, task, dates of service, AND additional personal financial obligations. You’re encouraged to research and ask many questions. Know and count the cost before moving forward and entering into an agreement.

Funds for grants are provided through the giving and fundraising of students in BCMs across Georgia for the purpose of supporting students on mission.

How It Works: Fully Funded Opportunities

Fully Funded Send Me Now opportunities are one of the following:
Short-term teams led by a BCM campus minister or church-related partner.

Full summer teams supervised by on-site missionaries or church staff.

Full or partial summer opportunities for 1-2 students supervised by on-site missionaries or church staff.
How are students selected for Fully Funded opportunities?
Students submit an online application to Send Me Now by November 30. Application is not a guarantee of appointment. Appointments are based on interviews, references, and background checks.

Students must contact their local BCM campus minister or church college minister to set up an initial interview. If the BCM campus minister or church college minister recommends the student for service, the student will be invited to Discovery Day.

At Discovery Day, students will be interviewed by a team of campus ministers and student leaders, taking into account expressed preferences, availability of students, and needs of the ministry setting. It is not possible or acceptable to guarantee any student preference over another student.

Students who are offered an assignment will be notified within 24 hours of Discovery Day.

Offered assignments can be accepted or rejected.

Travel, supplemental insurance, meals, and housing expenses for mission projects are covered by Send Me Now and/or the local place of ministry.
What is required:
November 30, 2026: Online Application Due

Send Me Now applications for fully funded opportunities must be submitted (with photo uploaded and references pending).

January 8, 2027: Campus Minister Recommendation Due

All three references must be pending or completed. Campus Minister cannot be one of these online references.

Campus minister local interview must be complete and submitted.

GBMB Volunteer Onboarding must be initiated (and completed by January 22).

$100 Program Fee due – paid by student to campus BCM.

January 30, 2027: Discovery Day, FBC Barnesville

All applicants for fully funded opportunities must attend Discovery Day.

April 10, 2027: EQUIP, FBC Barnesville

All appointed applicants must attend EQUIP Send Me Now Training and Commissioning.

For international opportunities: passport, immunizations, and any other required medications are required. These expenses are the responsibility of the student.

What you should consider:
Fully funded mission opportunities are OFFERED, not chosen.

Expenses, other than passport and immunizations, are covered by the fundraising and giving of students in BCMs across Georgia for the purpose of supporting students on mission.

Leadership, supervision, and logistical support for fully funded opportunities are provided by Send Me Now.

Other FAQs

Can I apply for Grant Funded opportunities and Fully Funded opportunities at the same time?
Can I serve in more than one opportunity during the summer?
If I serve in a grant supported opportunity, what will my additional costs be?

That varies depending on where you serve. If you serve in an IMB opportunity, potential additional costs will be field costs, airfare, passport, visa, immunizations, and related expenses. If you serve in a GenSend or other ministry partner opportunity, additional costs will be field costs, travel, and other possible related expenses. Your supervisor will be able to tell you all associated costs.
Do I have to be Baptist to serve in a fully funded or grant supported Send Me Now opportunity?

Send Me Now ministry partners each have their own guidelines for church membership. Please check with the ministry with which you want to serve to find out if they require you to be a member of a Baptist church. To receive a Send Me Now grant or to serve in a fully funded opportunity, you must be a Georgia college student, a member of a Christian church, and involved in a Georgia BCM or Georgia Baptist Church. In the event that a particular opportunity requires membership in a Baptist church, it will be indicated in the description.
Does Send Me Now offer opportunities to serve for a semester or longer?
Is there value in applying early?

Yes! All of the Send Me Now ministry partners appoint students on a rolling basis. Once the application is available, those positions are filled on a first come first serve basis with the most qualified students. The sooner you apply, the sooner your application can be reviewed and you potentially can be appointed. Once you are appointed, you can begin to raise needed funds, apply for the Send Me Now grant, and start making all of the preparations needed for your summer of service.

If you are applying for a fully funded opportunity, the application deadline is November 30. Appointments will be made by the day after Discovery Day. However, it is of great help to the people processing your application and preparing for your summer if you apply as early as possible.

What if there is an emergency while I am on the field?

Your local (field) supervisor is the first point of contact. You may also have an additional supervisor from your place of service who will be a help. Finally, someone in the Send Me Now office will always be available to help in the case of an emergency or crisis. You will receive specific contact information at the EQUIP event.
