What if your summer was about more than just serving—it was about meeting people, building friendships, and showing the love of Jesus to your neighbors? Join The Root Cellar in Portland, Maine, for a summer of Gospel-centered ministry among immigrant families, teens, and elementary students.
Portland is a diverse and growing community, and The Root Cellar is creating welcoming spaces where people from different cultures can find community, practical support, and the hope of the Gospel. You’ll be part of a dynamic team serving vulnerable families through summer day camps, teen mentoring, English Language Learning, food security programs, community outreach, and discipleship.
Your days will be hands-on and relational, with plenty of opportunities to build genuine friendships and share your faith. You might lead or assist with an English class, help run a summer camp, mentor a teenager, welcome a new family, serve at a food distribution, or join a Bible study. And sometimes, ministry looks like washing dishes or cleaning a toilet. At The Root Cellar, everyone pitches in. There’s no “that’s not my job” mentality. Whether you’re leading a Bible study or taking out the trash, you’re serving people and making space for the Gospel. You’ll work as part of a team, learn from experienced ministry leaders, engage with people from cultures around the world, and discover how everyday acts of service can open doors for meaningful conversations about Jesus.
And when the workday is done? You’ll get to experience Portland, Maine—from its coastal scenery and walkable neighborhoods to its unique food, culture, and New England charm.
