“The Big Easy”; “Crescent City”; “Big Crescent”; NOLA whatever you call it, New Orleans is at the same time a uniquely Beautiful and Ugly / Old and New / Thriving and Stagnant / Flashy and Classy culmination of adjectives all rolled into one location simultaneously. Situated along the mighty Mississippi River, New Orleans proper is made up of multiple districts and as many as 72 distinct neighborhoods. Each neighborhood is a community in it’s own right supporting those inhabitants with a means to live – work – play within that specific area. This makes doing ministry in New Orleans such a challenge because what may work in one neighborhood, may not in another.
Ministry projects include working to help the homeless population of New Orleans by doing “under the bridge” ministry which serves those who live in make shift shelters or tents under some of the many bridges. Several of the ministries work to help people out of the Sex and Human Trafficking industry that is unfortunately thriving in NOLA. Community beautification projects and various outreach evangelism as directed by church planters trying to reach those in their neighborhoods are also ways that students will serve the city of New Orleans.
Your mission experience will include a mini “Catch the Vision” CTV trip as you walk through the neighborhoods of New Orleans and get a better understanding of what it is like to Live Life on Mission in a city like no other. Free time will be allowed during your time so that you can explore the city and the surrounding area as best suits your group.
Following a week of ministry in the city, this team will serve on the registration team for the Southern Baptist Convention meeting.
