Lonely Planet Evangelism, Southeast Asia
June 1 – July 30
Project #26891 | 6 Students (males and females)
Field Cost – $2,200 + airfare, insurance & visa costs
Our tropical paradise island is desperate for tourists- let’s use that for the Kingdom! As a tourist with a purpose, you will take the light of Jesus to the darkest parts of the island. Prayer walking, looking for persons of peace, and sharing the gospel will be your main goals. You’ll be challenged and amazed by nature and by the people who live here. Inspired by Luke 10, you’ll go into remote areas listed on tourist sites and look for people who welcome you. From there, you’ll rely on the Lord to lead you into situations and relationships that can lead to gospel conversations. Your group will be traveling as backpacker tourists, many times without a guide. You’ll go to anywhere that’s listed online or in tour books as interesting places, and sleep wherever you’re welcomed. Hammocks, tents, and non-air conditioned hostels will be common. Many of these places have no Christian presence at all and are rarely frequented by long term workers because of the distance or difficulty in reaching them. While you’re “on vacation” you’ll prayer walk, gather information for future outreach initiatives, engage locals that speak English, see some amazing sites, and take the light of Jesus into utter the darkness.
It sounds like a cushy assignment, but it’s not. The darkness is real and so is the humidity. The goal is to send you out for 3-5 days at a time, with two day respites (read: A/C and hot showers) in between adventures. We’d also love you to be involved with the many TCK’s (Third Culture Kids) on the island who will no doubt think you’re the coolest. Your summer will start with a joint NT orientation held at the Nehemiah Teams Training Center in Mentone, Alabama. Learning basic skills related to your assignment as well as team building will fill these first few days. Then you will travel to your final destination for the summer. At the end of your assignment you’ll return to Alabama for a join debrief… sharing all that God has done over the summer.
