How It Works

What is the process for Grant Supported opportunities?
1. Mission/ministry opportunities are self-selected from this list of ministry opportunities found on the Send Me Now website. (examples: IMB, GenSend, etc.). Any opportunity offered by these partners is acceptable for Send Me Now grant support.
  - Other mission opportunities may be considered for grant support and will require advance approval from the Send Me Now consultant. To ask if a particular ministry opportunity not listed on the SMN website is eligible for grant support, e-mail sendmenow@gabaptist.org.
2. Application is made directly to the mission partner of choice. Application procedures and deadlines required by that agency/partner must be met, including all required expenditures. The selected agency/partner will be responsible for all logistics and requirements.
3. Once an approved assignment has been secured, application can be made to Send Me Now for a grant to help with expenses. Depending on the cost of a particular opportunity, a Send Me Now grant may cover some or all of the costs.
4. An interview with the local BCM campus minister or church minister and subsequent recommendation is required. After that interview, the BCM campus minister or church minister must complete a recommendation form for the grant applicant and submit to Send Me Now.
5. Once a confirmed missions assignment, grant application, and recommendation are all complete, a grant can be made.
6. Grant recipients are required to attend EQUIP, April 20, 2024. (Hands On students serving in the spring semester are not required to attend EQUIP.)
How do students actually receive their grant money?
Students serving in North America are eligible for a SMN grant of UP TO $800, not to exceed the amount of field expenses and/or real travel costs. Field expense grants will be paid directly to the ministry. If there are no field expenses, the grant can be used for travel costs either by submitting a copy of purchased airfare or mileage. If the grant is used for travel costs, payment will be reimbursed rather than given in advance.

Students serving internationally are eligible for a SMN grant of UP TO $1,600, not to exceed the amount of real travel costs. To protect the student from taxes on the grant, grants will only be made as reimbursement for purchased airfare. Students must submit a receipt for airfare to receive the grant funds.

Students serving in IMB Hands On opportunities will receive a $2000 grant and it will be paid directly to the IMB, based on the information provided by the student to Send Me Now.
What should I consider when applying?
Students have opportunity to apply directly to the mission partner and location of their choice. Approval for service and appointment rests solely on the mission agency, church, or other ministry to which the student applies.

The amount of SMN grants cannot exceed the guidelines stated above, regardless of the cost of the selected opportunity. Use wisdom when choosing mission opportunities. Consider location, requirements, supervision, task, dates of service, AND personal financial obligations.

There are many opportunities that will cost little to no additional cost above the amount of SMN grants; however, there are many that can cost FAR more. Do thorough research and ask many questions. Know and count the cost before moving forward and entering into an agreement.

Funds for grants are provided through the giving and fundraising of students in BCMs across Georgia for the express purpose of supporting students on mission.
How much are the grants?
- Grants for summer North America service are up to $800, not to exceed the real costs of travel or field expenses.
- Grants for summer International service are up to $1600, not to exceed the real cost of travel.
- Grants for semester Hands On service with IMB are $2000.

Qualifications

Christian college student demonstrating on-going spiritual growth through personal disciplines of Bible study, prayer, evangelism, and service.
Active participant in a Georgia BCM and/or Georgia Baptist Church.
Member of a Southern Baptist or other Christian church. Some opportunities require membership in a Southern Baptist Church; this is indicated on the list of opportunities.
Minimum GPA of 2.0.
At least 18 years of age before term of service begins.
Enrolled for either semester of the school year prior to the term of service.
Agree with and commit to serve in accordance with this statement of Basic Christian Beliefs during term of service.
Actively involved in raising funds for Send Me Now. Send Me Now missions is funded with money raised cooperatively by students on local campuses. Each BCM takes part in sending student missionaries by raising money locally. The funds raised on each campus are combined to pay for student missionaries from around the state to serve around the world. Those who apply and are appointed become the beneficiaries of this massive fundraising effort and are therefore expected to help and contribute to that effort. Some funds are donated through the Georgia Baptist Healthcare Foundation to assist with medical missions, and Georgia Baptist Disaster Relief to assist with disaster relief missions. Students applying as members of Georgia Baptist Churches will also need to participate in fundraising efforts.

Requirements

Be approved and appointed by NAMB or one of the other North America Send Me Now ministry partners.
Meet the qualifications above.
Complete the Send Me Now Grant Application by April 1, 2024.
Be recommended by BCM campus minister or church college minister: Recommendation Form
Attend EQUIP: April 20, 2024.
