Christian Beliefs and Lifestyle Expectations
What We Believe
- We believe the Bible to be the divinely inspired, infallible Word of God.
- We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- We believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in power and glory.
- We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is essential, and that repentance from sin and acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is the only way to come into a saving relationship with God. Grace is a free gift from God that we cannot earn.
- We believe the Holy Spirit comes to indwell the believer upon acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior, therefore enabling the Christian to live a godly life and to continue to grow as a disciple. Followers of Jesus develop spiritual disciplines in order to become more like Jesus.
- We believe the local church is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, unified by God’s love and grace, empowered and gifted by His Holy Spirit, commissioned to make disciples of all nations with the message of the Gospel, and called to love and minister to their neighbors.
The Lifestyle I Will Live
During my term of service, I covenant to live out a lifestyle that is indicative of a growing relationship with Christ. I will maintain the highest standards of Christian character, conduct, and courtesy. I understand that I represent my BCM, my church, the Georgia Baptist Mission Board, the Southern Baptist Convention and, most importantly, my Lord.
In respect for all those mentioned above, I will refrain from any use of alcohol, tobacco, pornography, sexual contact outside of biblical marriage, and/or any other activity that will call into question my integrity or hinder my witness for Christ. I will not offer opinions or ideas that contradict with these moral directives.
I have respect for the sanctity of human life and will not offer opinions or ideas that contradict a pro-life position. I have respect for God’s divine order revealed in his creation of males and females. I will not offer opinions or ideas that contradict an understanding that gender is a biological reality rather than a state of mind or personal choice.
